Joseph C. BalskusThe School of Engineering and Technology’s 2000 Outstanding AlumnusA 1988 graduate of the School of Engineering and Technology’s Engineering Technology Program specializing in construction, Joseph C. Balskus has had a successful career consulting on transportation projects, including bridges, highways, traffic signals, intelligent transportation systems, construction inspection, site design and various projects for State, Local, Regional Planning Agencies and private sector clients across Southern New England. A licensed Professional Engineer, Joe is also the only nationally certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer in Connecticut, as certified by the Institute of Transportation Engineers.As Senior Project Manager for Fuss "&" O’Neill, Joe manages the company’s Civil Business Unit in their Trumbull, Connecticut office. He is also responsible for Fuss "&" O’Neill’s Connecticut and Rhode Island markets. Mr. Balskus has served as President of the ITE Connecticut Chapter, as well as Editor of the New England ITE Chronicle. He also serves on the ITE’s Traffic Engineering Council. He is a recipient of the 1999 and 2001 ITE Connecticut Chapter President’s Award, as well as the 2000 ITE Connecticut Chapter Service to the Chapter Award. Joe is also a Director for the Intelligent Transportation Society’s Connecticut Chapter Board, as well as a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Connecticut Society of Civil Engineers, American Public Works Association, and the International Municipal Signal Association. Joe manages to strike a balance between the professional life and his personal life, which includes his wife Pam and their three rapidly growing boys, Weston, Jordon and Colton. He has served as an alternate member of his hometown Planning and Zoning Commission. With three active young sons, Joe is involved as a Cub Scout Den Leader, as well as assisting with coaching various youth sporting activities. His interests include bike riding, jet skiing and building things around the house. Joe attributes his career success to his graduating from the CCSU School of Engineering and Technology, and the curriculum which provided him the necessary skills to allow him to succeed in the Southern New England engineering field.
