Donald P. BelangerThe School of Engineering and Technology’s 1998 Outstanding AlumnusDonald P. Belanger is a 1980 graduate and currently operates his own global manufacturing consulting business, and also maintains a Senior consultant position with Simpler Inc., a firm specializing in lean manufacturing strategies. Don spent 31 years with United Technologies Corporation (UTC). During his career as a senior executive at UTC, he was the Plant Manager for Carrier’s Carlyle Compressor Plant in Syracuse, NY. While at UTC’s Pratt "&" Whitney Division, he was responsible for the operation of Pratt and Whitney’s Rocky Hill facility and Middletown’s Manufacturing Engineering and Support Services Organization. Throughout his career, he has spent considerable effort to improve the manufacturing technology applications utilized on increasingly challenging products manufactured all over the world. Don’s leadership style and hands on management skills have been well recognized by his customers.Since receiving this award, Don’s efforts were focused on improving manufacturing technology and business relationships/partnerships within Russia and between American and Russian joint ventures. In 2002, Don retired and is currently spending time managing the construction of their retirement home in Narragansett, RI. Once complete, Don’s intentions are to return to his manufacturing consulting passions. Recognizing the value continuing education has on one’s professional life, Don has constantly made efforts to expand his knowledge. He came to CCSU after graduating from the Porter School of Design and Manchester Community-Technical College. After graduating from the Industrial Technology program here at CCSU, Don went on to receive his MS degree in Manufacturing Management from Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute in 1984. Don and his wife Ellie, reside in Colchester, CT.
