The School of Engineering and Technology’s 2001 Outstanding Alumnus

Thomas C. Hutton is the General Manager of the Pratt "&" Whitney Engine Center currently located in Connecticut (Middletown and East Hartford) and Florida (West Palm Beach). In Tom's current position he is responsible for strategic and tactical leadership in the development, validation, assembly and testing of commercial and military aircraft engines, as well as industrial gas turbine powered engines. Tom has more than 18 years experience with Pratt "&" Whitney. Throughout his career, he has been very involved in the implementation of lean manufacturing, including significant work with the Shingijutsu consultants and the ACE process. In 2001, Tom was selected as a recipient of the "Outstanding Industrial Technologist Award" by the Industry Division of the National Association of Industrial Technology. This award recognizes individuals who distinguish themselves by exemplary leadership and application of Industrial Technology practices.

Tom received his Associate of Science in Manufacturing Engineering from Greater New Haven State Technical College in 1985, and his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology at Central Connecticut State University in 1989. He was an elected Board of Education Member for the City of Middletown from 1993-1999, and Chair of the Pratt "&" Whitney United Way Campaign in 2000. He currently serves on the Board of Directors' for Middlesex Hospital.
