The School of Engineering and Technology’s 1994 Outstanding Alumnus

Dr. John C. Larkin, a 1963 graduate and a full professor in the Department of Technology & Engineering Education, joined the CCSU faculty in 1967. He is known widely for his curriculum work in Technology & Engineering Education, serving as a consultant to several public school systems. From 1995 through 2002, John served as a consultant to the Capitol region Education Council. He is a frequent presenter at local, regional and national conferences. John has also served on several national professional association committees, chairing the Connecticut Technology & Engineering Education Association’s Graduate Studies Committee for several years. He has also provided numerous CAD and in-service workshops to transition teachers to technical education from industrial arts.

John authored the text Practical Problems in Mathematics for Drafting and CAD, as well as numerous worksheets on technical drafting and instrument drawing. In addition to publishing many articles in professional journals, he created and, for ten years, administered the Technology Enhancement Center for practicing Technology & Engineering Education teachers.

He is a 1986 recipient of the International Technology & Engineering Education Association’s Outstanding Young Educator Award. In 1990, he was awarded the 1990 State Council on Vocational Education Distinguished Service Award as an Outstanding Postsecondary Teacher. John was again honored in 1996 by the ITEA with its Distinguished Technology Educator Award. He is also a past recipient of the Connecticut Technology & Engineering Education Association Award for contributions towards the advancement of Technology & Engineering Education in Connecticut.

After thirty-six years of dedicated and distinguished service to the School of Engineering and Technology and the Department of Technology & Engineering Education, John retired on June 1, 2003.
