Richard C. Mullins, Jr.The School of Engineering and Technology’s 1990 Outstanding AlumnusRichard Mullins received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology Electrical Systems and Industrial Arts Education in 1984, as well as a Master of Science degree in Organizational Management from Central Connecticut State University. He is a 1984 recipient of the President's Award. Mr. Mullins is presently Managing Director for CCSU's Institute of Technology and Business Development.Rick's last professional position was as a Manager with KPMG LLP Risk and Advisory Services. He has over 18 years of experience in Management Systems with a focus on Quality and Process Improvement training. Through KPMG's Management Advisory Services group, he has conducted a Product Development and Technology Assessment engagement with Fairchild Semiconductor, a Comprehensive Business Risk Assessment with NY Independent Service Organization, and Six Sigma training with MacDermid and Waterbury Rolling Mills. He has delivered Lean Government Training to the CT Department of Labor, Municipality of Anchorage, and NY State Pensions. He has also directed the Operations and Efficiency review for the City of Waterbury, CT. Prior to joining KPMG LLP, Mr. Mullins was the Director of the Technical Training Center at Central Connecticut State University's Institute for Industrial and Engineering Technology (now CCSU Institute of Technology and Business Development - ITBD) where he was responsible for planning, faculty selection, and training activities as well as strategic planning initiatives and new business development. In 1995 and 1998, he submitted successful IIET Applications to the CT Quality Improvement Award Partnership. Mr. Mullins has also served as an Adjunct Lecturer for the CCSU School of Business and School of Engineering and Technology. Previously, Mr. Mullins was an International Marketing Engineer for United Technologies Corporation identifying new business opportunities in Space Habitat and Vehicle Environmental Control, Thermal Control, and Extravehicular Activity Systems. In recognition for his achievements, Mr. Mullins received a 1990 Presidents Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Corporation. He was also recognized in 1991 and 1992 with Senior Management Awards for Outstanding Contribution to the Division. Earlier in his career, Mr. Mullins was involved in marketing and business development of engineered products for General Electric Corporation and ConDiesel Mobile Equipment. Mr. Mullins has authored articles for professional journals on organization development and quality. Two recent publications, National Governor's Association Train the Trainer Implementation Program and A Successful Networked ISO 9000 Implementation Program, won the Connecticut Best Practices Winning Applications Innovation Prize in 1999 and 1998, respectively. In 1999, Mr. Mullins was a recipient of the Hartford Business Journal's "Forty under 40" award.
