Gregory F. Schaffer

The School of Engineering and Technology’s 2002 Outstanding Alumnus

Mr. Schaffer graduated magna cum laude from the School of Engineering and Technology in 1983 with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology with a specialization in Public Safety. In 1984, he received his Master of Science in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York. Following graduation, he was employed at the McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts as the Director of Environmental Health and Safety from 1985-1986. From 1986 - 1992, he was employed at the Hospital of Saint Raphael in New Haven, Connecticut as the Director of Facilities. While in New Haven, he led an active and effective 85 person facilities department for a 491 bed/3300 employee medical/surgical teaching hospital. He continued on to Saint Vincent's Medical Center in Staten Island, New York as the Vice President, Facilities from 1992-1993, then in 1993 to 1995, he became the Vice President for Facilities and Support Services.

He is currently employed as President and CEO at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, one of the oldest, continuous health care systems on the east coast.

Mr. Schaffer is also an Associate Faculty member at the Bloomberg School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins University. His memberships in professional associations include Diplomate, American College of Healthcare Executives, Member-At-Large, American Hospital Association, and the Association of American Medical Colleges/Council of Teaching Hospitals.

Mr. Schaffer is also very active in the community. He is Chairman, of the Southeast Baltimore Community Development Corporation, Secretary, of the Greektown Community Development Corporation, Executive Committee, of the Johns Hopkins Urban Health Institute, Director, of the East Baltimore Area Chamber of Commerce, Member, of the Life Board, Chesapeake and Potomac Region, American Red Cross, and a Member, of the East Baltimore Kiwanis.
