Program Sheet

The Post Master's Planned Program in Technology & Engineering Education is a program for students who have a Master's degree and/or a Professional teaching certificate. A minimum of 30 semester hours of study in approved graduate courses is required. The program, designed for flexibility in meeting the needs of the individual students, is usually shared with the student's school system to ensure that it meets all requirements for advancement on the teacher's pay scale. Programs of study are individualized through electives and independent study.

The primary purpose of the program is to further develop the personal competencies of practicing Technology & Engineering Education instructors so that they may successfully progress in their chosen field. Specifically, graduates of the program will:

  • Exhibit an acceptable degree of professional competencies and proficiency essential for meeting contemporary educational and social challenges
  • Update their technical competencies and understandings in their major area of concentration
  • Analyze and evaluate recent issues in their field, such as curriculum innovations and strategies for program improvement and/or implementation
  • Explain how the relationship between their field and the academic disciplines affects the development of their students
  • Engage in study regarding recent changes in their field that will result in their growth as practicing Technology & Engineering Education instructions
  • Expand their interest in and potential for educational leadership or other service in and outside their area of concentration

Program Considerations

  • In consultation with an advisor, the student develops the objectives that he/she wants to achieve as well as listing the courses that will help accomplish these objectives.
  • The program is then approved by the student's advisor and the Office of Graduate Studies.
  • Upon the completion of 21-24 semester hours, the student will again meet with the advisor and discuss his/her progress towards meeting the objectives established for the program.
  • No more than nine (9) semester hours of 400 level courses may be included in the program. The remaining courses must be at the 500 level or above.
  • No more than six (6) semester hours of credit may be transferred into the program from other institutions.
  • All program requirements must be completed within a six-year time period dating from the earliest course included in the planned program.
  • When requirements have been completed, students may request an official letter from the Office of Graduate Studies documenting that they have completed 30 hours in a planned program of study beyond the requirements for a Master's Degree or beyond completion of the requirements for a Post-Baccalaureate Certification Program.
