BLUE Extinguisher at Work

The objective of the Fire Fighting Robot was to find a lit candle which represents a fire in a house. The robot is autonomously computer controlled in which it guides itself through an arena to find the candle. This task simulates the real-world operation of an autonomous robot performing a fire protection function in a real house. (http://www.trincoll.edu/events/robot/Rules/default.asp)

Central Connecticut State University participated in this event with indigenous robot named “BLUE Extinguisher”. Participants were Brian Cabello ( Senior, Major Mechanical Engineering & Technology), Vinay Patel (Senior, Major Mechanical Engineering & Technology), Vishal Dhagat (Graduate Student), and faculty advisor Dr. Ravindra Thamma.

Participating in the competition was a learning process which required a lot of tedious time and effort. Attending the competition brought up ideas for the following year, and it also brought up perspectives that were not considered. This was Central Connecticut State University’s first time attending the competition which was held at Trinity College on April 14-15th, 2007.
